Where Every Railway Tells a Story
Scenic Train Journeys Across Sri Lanka
Want to make a nice anime like “Your Name”, “Silent Voice” and “5 cm per second” with a Sri Lnakan train journey?
First let’s propose a name…
What about “The Train that might hold Your Name” ?
On his 22nd birthday, Ren Takahashi received a message: “Happy Birthday 🌻”. Tokyo was loud, but that message felt different—warmer, quieter. Before he could reply, another text arrived: “Sorry… wrong person.”
That was how it started. A mistake, or maybe fate. Days turned into midnight conversations. He never saw her face or knew her name, but he learned her world—rainy days, sweet milk tea, old songs, and train rides through Sri Lanka’s misty mountains. She sometimes sent videos of blue trains crossing tea fields and fog rolling through valleys. Ren began waiting for those moments more than anything else.
Then one day, she disappeared. No goodbye. No trace. Only silence remained.
Years passed, but he never forgot. One winter evening in Tokyo, a train whistle pulled something loose inside him. Without overthinking, Ren booked a ticket to Sri Lanka.
He travelled through Kandy, Ella, Hatton, and Badulla, chasing fragments of her memory. Every station felt familiar, every train carried a possibility. But no matter how far he went, she wasn’t there. Still, he kept searching, as if the next platform might change everything.
At Nanu Oya Station, the final train stopped. Ren stepped into thick mist and silence, feeling the end of a long search settle over him. He sat on a bench, exhausted, empty, accepting what he couldn’t find.
A warm cup of coffee appeared in front of him.
He looked up. A girl stood there—long dark hair in the wind, gentle eyes, the same smile he had been chasing for years.
For a moment, neither spoke.
Ren asked, “What’s your name?”
She wrote in a small notebook: “What name would you give me?”
He smiled. “Himawari.”
“Why?” she asked.
He looked at the misted hills and said, “Because when I lost every light, you still found me like a sunflower searching for the sun.”
And in that quiet station, they finally met. 🌻
